Your string question
My string always slips a lot, sometimes even right after the racquet has been re-strung? Is this bad or do I have to do something?
Sandra's expert tip
First we would have to check the requirements for the question:
- Is it a polyester or polyamide string?
- How hard was the racket strung?
When it comes to stringing weight, you can say: the harder the strings are, the less slipping. But this should not be a criterion when choosing the weight, because higher string weights are more stressful because the strings are less flexible and the power has to come more from the arm and the technique. If a string has been on the racket for several months (or even years), then slipping has to do with the string being outdated.
The material influences slipping. Polyester strings typically slip very little. Slipping is very common with polyamide strings (nylon strings). This is due to the surface and, above all, the flexibility of the material - elastic strings simply slip more. But this actually doesn't have a significant disadvantage for the game - the players are usually visually bothered by it. In addition, you are hardly used to slipping because most people use polyester strings. Many people therefore think that slipping is a bad feature that should be avoided and turn to polyester, even though they do not need the durability of this material at all - unnecessary strain on the arm is often unknowingly accepted.
