Fitness is the be-all and end-all for us tennis players - so that it's always "Game, Set & Travel" for you.
We TennisTraveller thing in common: the love and passion for our sport of tennis. In order to be able to pursue our passion with full enthusiasm and joy on our tennis trips, we have to keep ourselves fit. And since many of you probably have a tennis camp coming up at Easter, NOW is the time to work on your own fitness. In the next few weeks we want to give you a few suggestions on how you can improve in terms of speed, agility, strength and endurance. So get off the sofa and get into training!
Take care of your fitness and make it a team or family project
As you may know, we are a tennis family through and through. And since some of us parents already know the importance of fitness training from our youth, the topic of fitness plays an important role for us alongside training on the pitch. Also and especially because we have three tennis kids who play a lot. And so we motivate each other to get and keep our bodies in shape all year round. This works (mostly) quite well, even for us “old people” - even if we could always do more.
Tennis is also very complex when it comes to fitness, as many things should be trained at the same time or with comparable intensity. So how do I train and when? Here it is often tempting to take a somewhat one-dimensional approach and, for example, “only” do strengthening exercises. And he forgets to keep his body flexible or to optimize his footwork a little. Of course, you can't and shouldn't train everything at the same time. This makes it all the more important to have good training plan And of course this should fit into the tournament planning.
Success with fitness videos - can it work?
became aware Nathan and Giselle Martin and their tennis fitness page www.tennisfitness.com via Facebook After watching some really good videos, I took a close look at her site. The Australian couple has worked with many well-known tennis players such as Sam Stosur, Svetlana Kuzentsova, Lleyton Hewitt, Jennifer Capriati and many more in the field of fitness. Today the two also focus on working with juniors and have holistic video training for different goals and age groups .
So I bought the junior program for $89 and was excited to see what was behind it. As with all other programs, the entire concept is initially designed for 12 weeks, although 6-week programs can also be implemented. For example, there are special short programs to improve speed or strength.
Very important and extremely good are the various training plans , which are designed according to the principles of periodization and simply give you a roadmap of how and at what intensity and frequency the different training areas should be trained.
All training blocks are described in detail in a video and text. Small goodies such as downloading the training plan, a training diary, stretching exercises, etc. are included. If you have any questions, you can ask them directly via the online platform or in a closed Facebook group - answers will be received incredibly quickly (but everything is in English). The offers are available to you on the platform for 12 months.
I can give an absolute recommendation to anyone who already has some prior knowledge of fitness or wants to complete the program together with their team and trainer. The video courses are more than worth the (small) money. What you need is next to nothing in terms of equipment. An absolute MUST, however, is some self-discipline and a large portion of motivation! But the clay court season is waiting for you - so let's go!
