Interview with Adrian Göldner • Experience report
Reflexit is a forearm trainer that strengthens the muscles around the wrist and elbow. With a simple, opposite rotational movement of the hands, the forearm muscles are activated and the wrists, which are usually held rigidly in everyday life, become stable, mobile and flexible again.
Since every body has different requirements, it is important to say in advance that we cannot guarantee that Reflexit will generally help with wrist and elbow health. However: strong and mobile forearm muscles stabilize the wrist and elbow, which is why our users report that it has a supportive effect on their wrist and forearm pain.
The classic symptoms of our customers are tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, or wrist pain. In general, training with the Reflexit also helps with the feeling of stiffness in the wrist or forearm muscles.
Stinging pain often occurs, especially when hitting with the backhand, because the forearm muscles are too weak and the almost joint takes on all the force. We rarely strengthen the eccentric load on the forearm in everyday life, which leaves us with a weak point when playing tennis. By training this weak point, we can prevent pain and injuries. In general, the problem is often not playing tennis itself, which causes the pain in the wrist or elbow, but everyday life. In an office job, we often keep our wrist very stiff when working with the mouse and keyboard. Because the joint and muscles are not trained in their full range of motion, a quick, unusual movement (like playing tennis) can often cause pain or injury.
On the one hand, the Reflexit strengthens the forearm muscles so that they can cushion more during play, which the joints would otherwise take over. And on the other hand, it increases the mobility of the wrist, so that it can react more easily to unusual movements.
We carried out numerous tests with test subjects during the 3 years of development. Building muscle in your forearms is a marathon, not a sprint. Nevertheless, both the test subjects and our customers report that improvements usually occur after 4-8 weeks. In exceptional cases even after 2 weeks - a lot depends on the general physical condition and muscles. It is important to train regularly. Every 2-3 days for about 2-5 minutes is completely sufficient at the beginning.
My co-founder Fovad founded the Delta Personal Training Studio in Bonn many years ago. During Corona, many of his customers switched from the office to the home office and suddenly had pain in their wrists due to the different heights of the desks and other equipment. Fovad then remembered his time when he was on the national kickboxing team. They had a device that consisted of a stick, a string and a weight at the bottom. And then this weight is always cranked up and down. He then recreated it in his studio and let his customers try it out. After 2-3 weeks the wrist pain was significantly better.
Then he called me and since I'm an online marketer, I looked up how many searches "wrist pain" got on Google per month. And then we started the project 😃. You can find the interview about the origin story on YouTube .
There are two of us and we occasionally have support from freelancers. The biggest hurdles for us at the moment are actually making more profits. We are currently managing to make sales, but almost no profit because the marketing costs and production costs (German production) are very high. We are currently working on how we might encourage customers to order two Reflexits at once.
At the beginning we had the problem that we couldn't find a manufacturer. We asked almost 100 prototype manufacturers, but as a start-up we were simply too small for them. After that, there were long difficulties ordering the right materials, as the large orders had to be fulfilled there too.
As of now, we will be entering retail in late spring next year. Once we have succeeded, we would like to develop more products that help people. We would also like to work more with influencers
Writing about things is one thing. But we are the type of writers who prefer to try out what we write ourselves and have our own experiences with it. Although these are of course subjective, they are certainly interesting and valuable for some of you. In our tennis family we currently have very different "areas of use" for the Reflexit: I, as a "PC worker", have very strong wrists and use the Reflexit for mobilization and general strengthening, our daughter uses it to work on her grip strength. And our son started his “rehab” very carefully after suffering tendonitis in his wrist.
My very personal conclusion: the Reflexit really has it all. When you start turning, you think: oh, that's easy. But as is so often the case, the difficulty and also the added value lies in the number of repetitions. And all three springs quickly become noticeable in the forearm muscles. The total recommended two minutes of total training is really not without. What was interesting to me was that after the first few training sessions the next day I was really sore in my hand muscles. I also found the training advice that you should do the training in an upright upper body position important. This really prevents negative radiation on the shoulder and neck muscles. So even if you can theoretically train on the sofa with the Reflexit, you should still sit properly ;-). A really great tool that is affordable at 79 euros and can certainly help many people prevent or treat injuries!
