• My experience report • Competition
Frescobol is a fun sport that comes from Brazil and is constantly gaining new fans all over Europe.
In Germany, the summer sport is usually known as “beachball”. The game is actually super easy. The main goal is to keep the ball in the air for as long as possible. For example, you can adjust the speed of the rallies so that the game remains exciting in the long term. You can also play in different game formats such as “attack-defense” or “2 against 1”. Frescobol is of course a nice alternative for tennis players, as its hitting movements and coordination are very similar to volleys in tennis. So if you want to become a serve-and-volley or doubles legend in the future, our Frescobol set will definitely help. Of course, it's also nice that you can play anytime and anywhere - whether in the garden, park, beach or in the courtyard. All you need is a little space and a set and you're ready to go :)
All of our rackets are made from real solid wood and are therefore extremely durable. Our rackets last a lifetime and playing with real wooden rackets is more varied than playing with the usual plastic rackets. The handles are tennis-like and much more comfortable than the plastic handles of beach ball rackets.
Frescobol is a very varied sport. The different types of wood and ball types also contribute to this. The dark bats are generally a little heavier and the wood is harder, so the ball bounces off the bat surface more quickly. There are also differences in the material of the balls. There are balls for beginners that are softer and rubber balls with a high bounce, where the game can become very intense and fast. By using different balls and rackets, we try to broaden the scope of the sport so that there is the right playing material for all age groups and skill levels.
Harald and I traveled together in 2016 and played a lot with the classic beach ball rackets. On the trip we noticed that the sport could actually be much more varied if the rackets were optimized and turned into real "sports equipment". When we saw Brazilians with real wooden bats on the beach on the same trip, we had the idea that the real Frescobol should actually be spread in Europe.
Harald was studying sports at the time and I was studying business administration, so we quickly realized that we could try to develop real sports equipment at the Technical University of Munich.
Currently there are still two of us. Every now and then we also have working students and interns who support us here in Munich. Funnily enough, our first permanent employee “Johannes” starts at the beginning of the year and was also on the trip with Harald and me at the time.
The biggest hurdle was certainly our first delivery, as we noticed that our grip tape was coming off the racket after a few rallies. So we started to loosen all the grip tapes in our shared rooms and re-wrap them "stronger/tighter". It took a few hours, but probably any activity is better than studying for exams :D
One of our best experiences was definitely the first sale. We had just put the product online at the time and could hardly believe how our first customer was able to find our product so quickly. Of course, we are still happy when we receive positive feedback about the sport or when Frescobol is reported in newspapers, blogs and forums. This means that Frescobol is becoming even more famous in Europe.
In the long term, we want to develop more and more cool, innovative and durable sports and leisure products. As of today, we have already developed several outdoor games and still have many ideas for fun games in our heads.
Linden wood and black walnut, weight per bat approx. 340g , grip tape black & red. Best suited for children and adult “beginners” of kickback sports.
Rubber with lime wood, weight per racket approx. 400g , grip tape orange & blue, improved "sweet spot". for TennisTraveller !
Do you know that too? You buy a beach ball set at your holiday destination or at home, play with it for an hour or two on holiday and either the bats are rubbish afterwards, the ball is broken or both happen during your holiday. Pretty annoying, right? In addition, you can usually only buy ragged pressboard or even plastic rackets at the holiday destination, which limit the enjoyment of the game and often make a hell of a noise.
I was all the more pleased with the brilliant quality of the Two46 rackets - they really are the Porsche of beach ball rackets. It feels great in the hand, looks really stylish and is a lot of fun to play with. The different balls are great, but we switched to the speed ball straight away and it's really fun.
One thing is certain: the set will definitely be used a lot at home in the garden and on vacation and will give us a lot of fun there!
