I always find it incredibly exciting to hear how they came to their company, what drives them and where they want to go! To be honest, I was really looking forward to my interview with Boris Krumm . Boris is one of the tennis veterans and is also referred to by some as a “tennis rocker”. In an interview with me, Boris lets us look behind the scenes and sheds some light on the “dark”: who is actually behind Bidi Badu, Toolz, Balls Unlimited and other well-known brands? All brands belong to Spodeco GmbH , where Boris is the managing director and owner. Boris, briefly introduce yourself and your role at SPODECO
My name is Boris Krumm, 52 years old and I have been in the tennis business since 1992. In the company I am responsible for purchasing and sales nationally and internationally.
For everyone who doesn't know SPODECO: what is SPODECO, how long has the company existed?
Spodeco GmbH has been around since 2016, previously it was Topspin GmbH. The reason for changing the name was the various brands that we carry in the company. We wanted your umbrella company for the individual brands.
Which brands are under the SPODECO umbrella and which products do the brands include?
We currently have 5 product areas that run under Spodeco. BIDI BADU, since 2016, Topspin has been around since 1987, TOOLZ since 2014. We also sell topspin and court accessories. BIDI BADU makes textiles for tennis and padel sports. We also feel at home in almost every other sport. Strengths lie in the unusual design, but also in a large range for the teams. Topspin has tennis strings made in Germany, TOOLZ has everything related to fitness, important products for tennis players to prevent injuries or actively build muscle, become more agile on the court, etc. Balls Unlimited only has tennis balls. We are also happy to offer the court accessories to our customers and clubs.
How many employees do you currently have?
We are currently a team of 18 people.
How do you manage to compete with the big yellow top dog, Tennis-Point?
We have been working with Tennis-Point for a long time and all of our products are offered there. We see ourselves as a partner to specialist retailers and clubs. We want to cooperate with everyone.
What do you see as your strengths? What sets you apart?
We are a team of tennis players who know what customers want and need. We can already see our strengths there. Good stock, fast deliveries and many years of experience.
Where should the company develop? What plans do you have?
We are currently traveling with partners in around 30 countries, but we want to focus more on the German market in the near future. Clubs are our goal. We have a large team offering with collections that last over 3 years and can be reordered again and again. Outfits for children and adults in uniform colors with cool designs should appeal to every club.

Do you still play tennis regularly?

And where did you spend your best tennis vacation?
When I was younger I went to Rovinj, and now I'm looking more at facilities where you can play tennis and padel because the family prefers to play padel.
