From Sunday, May 22nd, 2022 the time has finally come: the first Saturn Oil Open , ATP Tennis an Rhein & Sieg will open in Troisdorf. After the big ATP tour event in Halle (formerly the Gerry Weber Open), the Saturn Oil Open will be another tennis highlight in North Rhine-Westphalia. The winner of the event receives 80 ATP points for the world rankings, and a total of around 55,000 US dollars in prize money will be distributed. There is also the newly launched B&B Hotels Tennis Trophy.

The organizer of the long-term concept is tennis entrepreneur Marc Raffel and his agency MARA Sport-Consulting, who, together with co-tournament director Marc Kevin Goellner, had already begun preparations last autumn. “The exemplary cooperation with the organizing TC RW-Troisdorf eV and Uwe Maass (President) as well as the board members Volker de Cloedt and Claus Dreser was and is a great help.
“Together we have developed something very special with many winners and beneficiaries,” says Raffel. The ATP Tennis at Rhein & Sieg project was made possible primarily by the new title sponsor Saturn Oil & Gas inc. from Calgary in Canada. “The listed company is not only a good sponsoring partner, especially at this time,” says Raffel. The presenting partner is B&B Hotels GmbH in association with MK Consulting & Hotelmanagement, together they developed the B&B Hotels Tennis Trophy.
“We are expecting absolute world-class players and many Davis Cup cracks,” reveals co-tournament director Marc-Kevin Goellner, himself a former Davis Cup champion and No. 25 in the ATP world rankings. There are many well-known names from the ATP tour on the ATP registration list for the Saturn Oil Open, ATP Tennis an Rhein & Sieg, including Taro Daniel from Japan (ATP Carrer High No. 63), Thomas Fabbiano from Italy (ATP Carrer High No. 74 ), Gerald Melzer from Austria (ATP Carrer High No. 60), Chile's tennis star Tomas Barrios Vera or the new super talent from Switzerland Dominik Stricker, who already won the French Open as a junior. The German crowd favorite Dustin Brown and Mischa Zverev will compete with their partners in the doubles competition at the Saturn Oil Open.
The qualifying field of 24 starts on Sunday, May 22nd. from 10 a.m., shortly before the official, public opening ceremony in the Saturn Oil Open tent at 2 p.m. The main field will then take place from Monday, May 23rd. afternoon. The public Players Party will take place at the tournament on Wednesday, May 25th. In the evening, the first ATP Business Night will take place on Saturday evening, May 28th. In addition to world-class tennis, there will also be a small tournament for children on Thursday, May 26th. with the support of the Kreissparkasse Köln. A charity partner is also on site. During the terrible flood disaster last year, the SV Altenahr tennis facility was completely destroyed, among other things. Representatives of the club are there every day at the Saturn Oil Open with a stand to collect donations.
