The unexpected often happens - that's what you can call it when two tennis world record holders are introduced to you in the evening without prior notice. This is what happened during my trip to Mallorca at the ROBINSON Club Cala Serena . There I was able to meet the two Soysal brothers, Tony and Erkan . Two really tennis-crazy globetrotters who just a few weeks ago set another tennis world record in Senales Valley in South Tyrol. But more on that in a moment. In any case, I have to tell you about these two tennis cracks.
First let's look back: Tony and Erkan are part of a Turkish tennis family. Papa Ali was brought to Cologne in 1978 as a tennis coach and brought his entire family with him. The 5 sons all played tennis very ambitiously and won many titles. “Dad was always really strict, second place didn’t count” – Erkan and Tony told me. Nevertheless, you can feel the love and respect they have for their now deceased father.
A tough tennis school, lots of ambition and a lot of work brought Papa Ali “Wetten Dass…?” for the first time , when he set a new record with 26 balls in one hand. His son Erkan followed him a few years later and managed to catch a tennis ball with his racket that had been hit from a distance of 150 meters and a height of 50 meters during "Wetten Dass...?". Another record was set in paragliding tennis : 5 rallies on paragliders Hanging at an altitude of 2,000 meters is the latest world record that Erkan set with Tony and Rene Schittko in the Senales Valley, where the two of them played back and forth from one gondola to the other while watching the video ….
“Why such actions,” I asked the boys. They all follow one motto: “Tennis is everywhere” – anyone can play tennis, anywhere! But it's also normal on the tennis court.
Erkan runs the tennis base at the ROBINSON Club Jandia Playa on Fuerteventura, his brother Tony has just started his tennis base at the ROBINSON Club Cala Serena . Both share the same training philosophy, which involves teaching and playing “suggestive meditative teaching method” “We meet every tennis guest exactly where they are and develop their tennis further – even in just a few days.” And all of this with lots of pictures, a great mood and an exuberant and really contagious enthusiasm for tennis!
Of course, this also includes a cozy get-together at the sports bar right after tennis or “socializing” at the bar in the evening. Whether it’s hut magic with your own Soysal song and Tony’s legendary 6-degree beer or Erkan’s parrot Rio, Without him “nothing works” on Fuerte - they are definitely “crazy”. But they radiate an enthusiasm for tennis that captivates everyone, especially in a relaxed holiday atmosphere.
