The tour started 2022 with the WTA 500 in Adelaide on January 3rd. “We are excited to expand our partnership with the WTA to the DA-CH region and the Netherlands, adding to the growing group of countries outside the US where fans can watch our dedicated regional tennis channels,” said Ken Solomon , President of Tennis Channel. “Since the channel's inception nearly two decades ago, we have always prepared for global expansion. We have worked with the WTA and tennis decision-makers to test the thesis that the sport competes better when a series of eponymous media platforms allows fans to experience it as it is played around the planet every day of the year. We have evolved the sport of tennis in the highly competitive American market and now look forward to extending this model to other countries to transfer," Solomon continued.
Tennis Channel and the WTA already have a long-standing media partnership. The channel has broadcast women's tennis every year since its debut in May 2003. Since 2019, the TV channel and its US-based streaming platform Tennis Channel Plus have been the exclusive home of the WTA Tour for American tennis fans. Not only does Tennis Channel provide viewers with more live and on-demand women's tennis than ever before, but it also highlights the great athletes with streaming channels dedicated to individual players (e.g. a Serena Williams channel with archived Matches from her). The platform supports athletes in sharpening their profile and pursuing their interests away from the tennis court.
