The biggest opponent on the tennis court is often not the player on the other side of the court, but our own minds. We get angry, judge ourselves when we fail and internally complain about our opponents or our own technical incompetence. This inner chaos ultimately prevents us from playing our best tennis and sometimes even deprives us of the joy of the game.
Through ZENNIS you learn to play in the here and now and deal with your emotions more calmly. ZENNIS is the combination of the philosophy of Zen and tennis.
ZENNIS is the combination of the philosophy of Zen and tennis. Zen is a state of consciousness full of inner peace and presence that can be experienced through meditation and yoga exercises. A calm mind helps you stay focused and focused on the tennis court, especially when emotions are high on the court. Through ZENNIS you learn to play in the here and now and deal with your emotions more calmly.
ZENNIS was played in some ashrams in India as early as the 1990s. The meditation teachers recognized early on that tennis was ideal for mindfulness training.
Tennis coach John Lambrecht and his partner Nina-Gyana , a certified yoga and meditation teacher, have further developed the idea of ZENNIS and adapted it to modern tennis. Zennis is the perfect symbiosis of her two professional worlds.
ZENNIS is not about winning or losing, although the methods improve the game and strengthen the player's inner attitude. The focus is on connecting with your body and playing tennis from your gut.
ZENNIS is a mindfulness training that focuses attention on the present moment. Most of the time our minds are either concerned with the past or thinking about the future. In tennis, this mechanism is evident in which, for example, one is annoyed about past mistakes and mourns the last lost point, game or set. Or in another moment thinks about the next point win or sees the supposed win of the set in front of his eyes. ZENNIS, on the other hand, is about always bringing yourself back to the present moment and training the “attention muscle”.
For example, a “tool” that every player always has with them is their breathing . By breathing consciously, he is able to bring himself back into the here and now. In addition, breath and emotions are closely linked. When we are stressed, our breathing is shallow and chaotic. With deep, calm breaths, however, we can regulate our emotions.
On the court, the tennis ball can become an object for meditation. By focusing on the ball, following its trajectory, listening to the sound of impact and consciously feeling the moment of impact, the tennis player sharpens his senses and remains alert.
With ZENNIS there are no technical instructions on how to hit the ball. The goal is not to practice a textbook-style shot. At ZENNIS the focus is on finding ways to discover and activate your own creative potential. It's about trusting that your body is able to experience situations intuitively.
The goal is to play tennis without effort, pressure or will. Only then does tennis become ZENNIS – a meditative game of tennis.
You too can learn the methods of ZENNIS. Can be planned individually as a private, partner or group package on Mallorca.
