String question of the month: Which string, which type of string, which tension?
I'm an advanced beginner and don't really know much about strings or tension. Which string, which type of string and which average tension do you recommend? Should it also be taken into account how old you are and whether you are a woman or a man?
Sandra's expert tip
I would recommend personal advice to everyone, because the choice of material is as individual as you are.
As an introductory basic rule you can say: String weight as low as you still have control in the shot. Nowadays, stringing is no longer as hard as it used to be. Weights between 21-25 are absolutely common.
As long as the string doesn't break, you should choose a polyamide, also known as synthetic, string. These are well supportive and absorb the vibrations of the impact well. Advanced players who already break strings can switch to a thin poly string.
But be careful not to use too thick diameters or too hard covering weights. The string doesn't have to last forever. You should have fresh stringing done once a year or season anyway. If you play more often, you play more often.
