String question of the month: Pain in the playing arm - does a new or different stringing help?
Your string question
My hitting arm always hurts after playing. What can I do about the string to reduce some of the pain?
Sandra's expert tip
When pain occurs, action must be taken immediately so that the body does not get used to the pain and builds up a memory.
Depending on the initial situation (is the standard string a polyester string?), you should see a doctor, perhaps take a break and immediately switch to a comfort string (e.g. GOOD FEELING), which absorbs the vibrations from the hit and thus protects your arm.
Then the situation must be examined: since when exactly have I had the pain? Did I change anything before? New racket, different grip, new string, different string weight, changed grip position, played more often, slightly changed technique. Maybe there is a reason like that.
If no specific cause is conceivable, then play with a comfort string until you can play without pain and slowly increase the intensity again.
If you are pain-free for a longer period of time, you could switch back to your regular string. Choose the covering weight as low as is controllable.
If the pain starts again, you should seek more intensive advice and possibly adjust the racket model in combination with the string.
