Tennis season preparation 2018
Tennis season preparation 2018 - what should you consider when choosing your tennis hotel?
What is the beautiful saying? "After the season is before the season" - and that doesn't just apply to football.
Although we tennis players, especially the tournament players among us, actually have a season all year round, the clay court season with the association and media games is THE season for most people. And it is important to prepare for this in good time, year after year. We have put together some of the most important points that need to be taken into account when planning the preparation for the tennis season for you.
Many of you probably already know how and where you will prepare perfectly for the new clay court season. Some may still be planning where the 2018 season preparation will take place. Since I also plan and organize the preparatory camp in our club, I know only too well that there are many things to consider when planning.
Who's going along with everything anyway?
Are there only team players or also recreational players and families? Will the entire club go or should preparation for the season only be planned for one team? If families are joining you and some of them don't play tennis, you should definitely choose a tennis hotel and a destination where non-tennis players can also have a nice holiday.
When exactly should pre-season preparation take place?
Tennis season preparation usually takes place at Easter. Depending on the regional association, it may also be the case that the association games don't start until June and you can then travel in May or possibly even during the Pentecost holidays. Depending on this, you can also choose your travel destination. Are we heading towards spring, i.e. to Italy, Croatia or perhaps flying to Mallorca? Or is the weather already good in the Allgäu or Austria?
If you travel early and perhaps not that far south, the topic of indoor tennis is important. Does the tennis hotel have its own hall or are there indoor courts nearby? You should definitely find out the options – including reservations and costs – in advance.
Do we take a trainer with us or can I take part in training courses on site?
If you take part in tennis season preparation camps run by clubs, the problem is almost always clarified with a coach or coaching team. Most of the time it is the trainers who organize such tennis camps. However, if you are in a small club or only want to travel with your own team, you should clarify in advance whether a suitable trainer can be booked locally.
Leisure or supporting program
We know it from our club: it's not just the team players who go to prepare for the season. The entire family is taken along - that's wonderful, but it also has to be taken into account when planning. An (indoor) swimming pool for the children, possibly a small wellness area, one or two nearby towns for shopping, the beautiful walking route and and and...
Pricing or how much should it cost?
Not everyone has the same big or less big wallet - this is of course fundamentally important when choosing a hotel. Find out in advance what the participants' travel budget is and discuss the topic openly in the group.
Choosing the “right” tennis hotel
There are certainly ready-made tennis trips from well-known travel providers that you can also book as a tennis club or tennis team, regardless of size. That would be a jack of all trades.
But if, like us, you want to play somewhere away from the well-known tennis hotels and have very specific ideas about the hotel, the surrounding area and so on - then it will be a little more difficult, but not impossible.
Once you have found the tennis hotel for your stay, you should clarify the following in advance:
- Can a specific room contingent be optioned in advance?
- in advance at fixed times ?
- Is it possible to negotiate a discount for the entire group and a small goodie for the organizer? Just talk to the hoteliers.
Note: There is no such thing as a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to preparing for the tennis season
Basically, as an organizer, it is incredibly important in advance to assess the different requirements of the tennis players and the families traveling with them. Of course, you can't do justice to all expectations, but there are many tennis hotels that can be explored off the beaten track and serve many expectations wonderfully. And ultimately contribute to a great tennis preparation camp – on and off the court!
On this blog we present you some beautiful tennis hotels that we have already visited ourselves and found to be great and would therefore like to recommend to you.
