Start of the intensive tennis camp at the Ljubicic Tennis Academy on Lošinj - our first Camp Diary entry
After we arrived here on the beautiful island of Lošinj last Saturday and were able to enjoy two days of vacation and “settling in” in our camp hotel Punta Vitality Hotel intensive camp at Ljubicic Tennis today at 8 a.m Academy in Veli Lošinj. Excited and full of motivation, we headed towards the fitness room with our tennis gear packed. So much in advance: the first day of camp in the best tennis weather was quite something.
The early bird gets fit
Yesterday Tom was added to the Academy's WhatsApp training group, so the schedule and group division for today was already clear in advance. The meeting point was the Ljubicic Tennis Academy fitness room, located in the Punta Vitality Hotel . The plan was an hour of fitness. The Academy has a separate fitness room in the already well-equipped fitness area of the Hotel Punta Vitality. You can see a big difference straight away: while there are lots of cardio and strength machines in the hotel's fitness area, the Ljubicic Tennis Academy area is clear. Weights, lots of Deuser bands, pulling machines and everything you need for efficient bodyweight training are there. Nothing is missing. Fitness coach Dan looked after the group.
After the fitness session we went onto the court. Two players and a trainer per court. The group is internationally very broad and consisted of young people who train permanently in the academy and players who train here on a daily basis or, like Tom, for a week. Tom was on the pitch with an Australian woman, where Coach Mario first did various rhythm exercises with the two of them. Overall, everything here is very quiet. Clear, short announcements from the trainers, no loud words, but everything very precise and focused.
In the second training session in the afternoon we really step on the gas again
After the first tennis session there was a breather until 2:30 p.m. Then we continued with a 30-minute warm-up on the Track & Field tartan track directly on site. Afterwards we went to the court for the second tennis session. Same tennis coach, but different tennis partner. Melos from Sweden was the training partner. First there were rhythm exercises with forehand and backhand as well as volley exercises. Then serves and then sparring over a set. At the end of the session, quick points were practiced again without a serve, but with a throw by the coach.
From the tennis court then back to the fitness room for a 30-minute gym session. A few more strength exercises and stretching exercises were done here. At 5 p.m. it was over for Tom. Many of the Academy players still have a physio session.
Tom's highlights of the day
- ON COURT: Stay calm - don't "jump" so much during the shot
- IN GYM : Cool equipment and varied exercises, especially in the second session!
First glimpse behind the scenes of the Ljubicic Tennis Academy
In the morning I was able to talk to Thea, the hospitality manager of the Ljubicic Tennis Academy. She explained to me that 15 players from Australia, South Africa, Sweden and Croatia are currently training permanently in the academy. This week, almost 10 additional players are in the academy on a daily or weekly basis and will be integrated into the intensive training. Basically, the Academy's credo is to value quality instead of quantity, especially when it comes to young talent. Therefore, the number of permanent Academy players should not increase.
Well, do you feel like it?
If you would like to take a look at the Academy's various camp offerings in advance, you can find out more about them in our camp listing. Because here at the Academy, tennis courses are offered for all age groups and levels:
