4 mega-intensive days in the junior tennis camp at the Alexander Waske Tennis University - read our summary.
The intensive junior tennis camp days for everyone involved at the Alexander Waske Tennis Academy are over - time to sum up. Of course we don't want to withhold this from you. Our "little one's" muscle soreness has now subsided and our older one has gotten over her severe cold and is already hitting balls hard again. What were the highs and lows in the 4 days of junior tennis camp - let's start!
"Intensity is a belief" - not just a babble...
Not only can this motto be read several times on the trainer's shirts and in various other places: it is also lived on the pitch. And that's really great! There is no long chatter, but during the training sessions there is only one thing: full throttle. Of course, there's a sentence here or there, but he's almost always completely focused on what the goal is on the pitch. So the 1.5 hour sessions are really very focused and intensive. We haven't seen something like this too often!
Challenging exercises always with a focus - that's what helps the kids move forward
Many exercises are designed for toughness. No matter whether it is batting practice with targets, for a time or various drills. A lot is asked of the kids, but they really dig into it when they want. If they fail beforehand, the game continues until they reach their goal. And then you are exhausted, but proud.
The quality of the trainers, at least the ones our kids had over the four days, is really very good. All former tour players and you can tell. There is an ambitious wind blowing without seeming too strict. The speeches are clear and fair. And of course hissendurch also has a cool and funny saying.
The fitness training was varied and covered many facets. Of course, the Kempinski Hotel gym also offers great conditions, with all kinds of equipment available.
What could be improved...
Let's start with the location, the 5-star Hotel Kempinski. On the first day we felt a bit “out of place” here. Because of the waiting times between training sessions, you didn't always know where you could comfortably sit down. A separate room where you can have your own drink and a snack wouldn't be bad here. The hotel prices for drinks and food went a bit beyond our budget...
The hall itself was really quite cool on two days - a theme that is common to many air domes. However, the TU team and the trainers have done their best and are continuing to work hard on a good solution. And they will definitely do it!
The training times, or rather mostly the fitness training, were very spread out, meaning the waiting times between training sessions were such that it was worth going to the hotel. This wasn't a problem for us as we only lived 10 minutes from the training location. And since the kids did the fitness together with the TU players, it couldn't be arranged any other way - understandably.
And finally the comparison to the holiday tennis camp
Of course, I asked the children whether they liked the Easter holiday camp 1.5 years ago or the junior camp better now. And they both said in unison and promptly, the junior tennis camp. Here everything is much calmer and more purposeful. Although there is no playing outside the court with the other camp participants, eating together, etc., the on-court training is simply much more focused. As a mom, this review surprised me a bit - I would have expected it differently.
Either way, a tennis camp at the Alexander Waske Tennis University is really recommended. And I think it's anything but impossible that the kids will become repeat offenders!
