Wow - that was my very first thought when I looked at the fantastic photos from our two travel scouts Hanna and Dani emailed to me in October directly from the ROBINSON DJERBA BAHIYA The two students took part in the Travelscout raffle online
MARA Open 2023 And then it was time to make travel plans. The plans quickly turned into a concrete tennis vacation plan for the two top league players, teammates and friends. In October the two of them went to Djerba for a week to extend the summer. The 7-day stay for two people in the club with the all-inclusive All Inclusive by ROBINSON catering package was completely included in the price. With a second big WOW, when they both returned, I received even more wonderful photos and, above all, a super detailed travel report . The girls were both in a ROBINSON club for the very first time. So it was a completely unbiased holiday premiere that was really tough for the two of them, and not just on the tennis court. But it's best to just read the great travel report for yourself. It's definitely worth it, because it just gives you PURE tennis travel joy !
From here I hand over the author's pen to Hanna and Dani and wish you TennisTraveller lots of reading fun!
"A wonderful week at the ROBINSON Club on the Tunisian island of Djerba is behind us. We, Hanna and Dani, were able to test the club, which is located directly on the Mediterranean. The following report describes our experiences and experiences of this unforgettable week. We hope that the report helps you to gain some impressions about the club.
Our arrival
When we arrived at the airport, we were greeted by a friendly TUI employee. This took us straight to a shuttle bus that was already waiting for us and the other Robinson guests. The drive from the airport to the hotel took about 40 minutes. When we arrived at the hotel, we were welcomed with sparkling wine and refreshing juices while our suitcases were unloaded and taken to our rooms. After the reception we went to the bistro right by the sea. Afterwards, we toasted the coming week in the rooftop bar, where live music was played to match the sunset. Over a delicious drink, we got into conversation with other hotel guests. You can see that we felt very comfortable and welcome from the first second. The day of arrival couldn't have gone better for us.
The hotel
The Hotel Robinson Club Djerba is located directly on the Mediterranean. The facility is in a very good and, above all, clean condition. The club has its own beach, an outdoor pool and an indoor pool, two restaurants, four bars and plenty of opportunities to do sports. In addition to the seven tennis courts, there are two beach volleyball courts, a soccer field, two table tennis tables and a fitness studio. Although the club is relatively large, everything can be easily reached in a few minutes. The architecture of the facility is particularly impressive. The white and blue colors and large towers have a very special flair and are reminiscent of the Thousand and One Nights.
The sports offer
To be honest, we imagined the holiday with cocktails at the stand. On our first day we made the most of the sunbathing with a delicious drink at the stand. But we realized relatively quickly that there are an incredible number of different activities on offer here and we would like to try out as many as possible. The following days looked a bit more sporty for us. We attended the volleyball meeting every day, where we learned a lot. The entertainers, who were always in a good mood, ensured a good atmosphere and gave us helpful tips. After just a few days we noticed an improvement in our game. What was particularly nice was the direct proximity to the beach volleyball courts.
After going to the beach, we were usually rewarded with a delicious cool down from the beach bar next to it. As a tip: Our absolute favorite was the iced coffee. In addition to courses such as Pilates, we also visited the gym. The room was nice and cool and we actually had it all to ourselves. We found that running on the treadmill is much better with a view of the beautiful palm tree landscape.
In addition to one or two table tennis duels, tennis was of course not to be missed for us tennis players. Since we happened to meet two tennis players at the beginning of the vacation, it didn't take long for us to have a doubles match. The seven courts all had sand as a surface, but it differed somewhat from our clay courts as we know them. In our opinion, the surface was relatively quick for a stand. Nevertheless, it was good to play on the beautifully located tennis courts.
free time activities
Apart from the sports activities in the club, there was an immediately adjacent water school where numerous activities such as jet skiing, catamaran sailing, kite surfing and banana boat riding were offered. Since the water school is not part of the club, these activities had to be paid for. However, the prices were very limited. We decided on a 90-minute jet ski tour and haven't regretted it for a second. For us it was one of the most beautiful experiences of the holiday and we can only recommend it.
Another unforgettable experience was the ride together at the stand. Although neither of us has any experience with equestrian sports, that was absolutely no problem. A guide accompanied us on our 60-minute sunset ride.
Quad tours and camel rides were also offered outside the club. The evening events in the club are particularly noteworthy. In addition to musical performances and children's theater shows, there was a DJ every evening who ensured a good atmosphere. We particularly enjoyed the Black Night on Thursday and the gala evening on Saturday, where there was a lot of celebration. These evenings were definitely unforgettable for us!
The food
The good thing - or maybe not so good :) - is that there is constant food in the club. In addition to breakfast, lunch and dinner, there is a bistro that offers small snacks such as pizza and salads between lunch and dinner. And for all of you late risers: In addition to the normal breakfast (7 a.m. to 10 a.m.), a late riser breakfast is also offered, which we admittedly made use of quite often :). We always had a large selection at the buffet. Above all, there were a lot of vegetarian and vegan alternatives on offer. For breakfast there were various types of rolls, whether wheat, wholemeal, with or without grains, there was something for everyone. Croissants and freshly made pancakes were also offered. In addition to muesli, fruit, sausage and cheese platters, you could have omelettes prepared with various ingredients. As you can see – there really was nothing left to be desired.
There was also a large selection at dinner. In addition to the pasta, chips, potatoes, vegetables, fish and salad, whatever was on offer, there were some new dishes every evening. One evening there was also a theme evening where delicious regional Tunisian dishes were prepared. The quality of the food was completely fine, but in our opinion there is still some room for improvement. Although we visited the club in the off-season, the tables were usually full at dinner. Since there were only two of us, we often sat at the table with others. This wasn't a problem for us at all, but if you want some peace and quiet here, it's better not to eat out at peak times.
The ambience
The service at the hotel was always friendly and very helpful. Thanks to the extensive sports, leisure and evening program, we were able to make contacts very quickly and felt really comfortable. The atmosphere was therefore very relaxed and pleasant.
What we didn't like so much
To be honest, we enjoyed our stay at the club so much that we can only look for a needle in a haystack when it comes to negative things. The beach is a bit rocky in most parts of the water, which makes entering the sea a bit uncomfortable. But if you walk a few meters along the beach, there is a really beautiful sandy beach just a few minutes away. Here you can go swimming in a relaxed manner. Since this is a little outside, there are no more loungers there. In general, relaxing at the stand was often a bit difficult because locals were a bit pushy. But this could also be because there were two of us (two young ladies). For example, if you lie on the beach with your partner, the locals behave much more reservedly. We took the whole thing with humor and were able to ignore it quite well.
Our conclusion
Since neither of us had ever been to a ROBINSON club before, we had no idea what to expect. We didn't have too many expectations, which is why we were even more positively surprised by the club in the end. We have discovered that there is a large team behind this whose goal is to offer guests an unforgettable holiday experience.
The location, the sports and leisure program and the atmosphere were simply unique. In fact, a few tears were shed when we returned. We will remember the week forever and one thing is certain: it definitely won't be the last time we'll be there!
