Met and fell in love on the tennis court, now married for 20 years. Reason enough for me to surprise short trip for the “porcelain wedding anniversary” It had to be something very special. Something that also takes up our shared hobby of tennis and also fulfills many of our holiday wishes in terms of active relaxation, wellness and culinary delights. And I quickly chose the Posthotel Achenkirch on Lake Achensee in Tyrol. We set off early on Monday morning towards Achensee, a region in Tyrol that was completely new to us. From Stuttgart we were at the lake in three hours, with the last hour's journey taking us through a beautiful mountain landscape. For the first day we had chosen a hike in the Rofan mountains. From Maurach you can take the Rofan cable car up high and find beautiful alpine hiking trails and cozy huts. After the exertion, we were rewarded with a delicious mountain snack on an alpine pasture - so the holiday can start!
In the late afternoon we went back to Achenkirch along Lake Achensee. Posthotel Achenkirch , an exclusive tennis hotel, next to the church The check-in was very friendly. We drove the car in the huge underground car park directly to the luggage check-in, unloaded our suitcases and then parked the car comfortably. We were then able to toast our holiday with a glass of champagne.
After a short tour of the house, we were shown to our room in the main building. And we were amazed when the door to our signature suite opened. Spacious, airy, modern, a mix of wood and stone. The bathroom with a huge shower and bathtub are integrated into one room and yet cleverly separated by various elements. Panoramic glazing on the entire front of the room, a small balcony and my highlight: the free-swinging rocking chair!
To relax we then went to the spa area - everything has been completely renovated since 2021. And this much in advance: it is a real dream. Everything with lots of curved wood, glass and light accents - this is the perfect place to take a sauna. If you want something even more stylish, we recommend “The Sunken Temple” You really should see this once. Personally, I preferred the brighter area. After the sauna, head to the Yin-Yang outdoor pool , a pool with cold water, a pool with warm water - simply wonderful.
Feeling well rested, we then went to dinner. The table was wonderfully set up in a small, cozy room. As a guest you can choose either the "normal" 5-course menu or the Tenzo menu or a combination of both - these dishes are served at the table. There is also the delicatessen market, a buffet area where you can get salads and various starters, main courses and desserts. As a guest you are spoiled for choice, which admittedly caused some confusion for us on the first evening. But thanks to the friendly service, we were able to enjoy the gourmet cuisine.
The next day was our wedding anniversary. And we were greeted at the breakfast table with a beautifully decorated table. The breakfast is really fantastic - there's nothing you can't get here. Fully strengthened, we didn't go to the tennis court today, but instead went on the mountain bike. A wonderful pleasure tour along Lake Achensee took us into the Karwendel Mountains. By the way, we were able to rent the bikes at the hotel. After a dream tour, there was some time to relax in the spa area.
A beautifully set table awaited us while we ate, where we could enjoy another wonderful dinner. After a stop at the bar, we were surprised in our room with a romantically decorated bed - the room fairies really put their heart and soul into this. Thank you!
On the third day, after breakfast, we finally went to the tennis court - as it should be for TennisTraveller . From the two beautifully located sand courts you have a dream view of the mountains. I think you can't have a nicer place to stay in the mountains! By the way, you can do this all year round Posthotel Achenkirch In addition to the two sand courts, the hotel also has two indoor courts. At the end of the wedding short trip, my husband and I came full circle back to the tennis court with lots of sun and a fantastic view! If that's not a good omen!
At the end of our stay we treated ourselves to a wellness treatment. During the "strength ritual" the head and neck area and also the feet were worked on - a great combination that grounds you and relaxes you. The spa area is beautiful and relaxing in itself with its light-flooded and bright rooms. Before we drove home, we were able to enjoy the TCM lunch in the Tenzo restaurant. And then unfortunately we went home again.
During our stay at the Posthotel Achenkirch I was able to interview Karl C. Reiter, the manager of the hotel. He is already the sixth generation to run the hotel. A calm and thoughtful boss who does a great job of bringing together tradition and new influences. The love for Far Eastern culture and lifestyle is reflected in many areas of the hotel. This makes the hotel stand out from other hotels in a very interesting way, but without losing any of its solidity, warmth and down-to-earthness.
