The four-star Sonnenalm , which has been run by the Fink family for many, many years,
on a sunny plateau in the Passeier Valley in South Tyrol The hotel actually belongs to the small village of Sankt Martin, but is located outside in a wonderfully quiet area on the edge of a forest. In addition to tennis, a variety of sporting activities such as hiking or mountain biking can be undertaken directly from the hotel. If you're looking for a little more hustle and bustle, you can quickly reach Merano (15 minutes by car) or Bolzano (40 minutes).
With 40 rooms, the Sonnenalm is very cozy - you are “among yourself”. In the main building itself, most of the rooms are furnished in an Alpine country house style, quite spacious and cozy. Some luxury suites and the family suites in the Recidence (own building approx. 30m away) are, however, very luxurious and extremely chic. The family apartments (up to 120m 2 in size and for up to 7 people) are perfect for families with children who, on the one hand, appreciate plenty of space and, on the other hand, appreciate hotel comfort. New in 2020, an outdoor children's park was added.
The Sonnenalm is one of the Fink family's three exclusive houses, part of the Andreus Resorts. Especially the partner hotel Andreus - we have to mention that here: a hotel of superlatives , in which the DFB national team was already accommodated for the preparations for the World Cup.
You can find world championship flair in many corners there. You can use most sports and wellness activities free of charge as a Sonnenalm guest. You just have to bridge the short distance on foot (approx. 20 minutes) or by car (a good 5 minute drive).
In just a few steps you can reach the three sand courts , which are available free of charge The same applies to bats and balls. If the two courts are full or there are not enough for your tennis group, you can play on another 3 clay courts in the 5-star partner hotel Andreus . Tennis training is offered in the Sonnenalm or directly in the Andreus .
But you can also start hiking directly from the Sonnenalm and enjoy a nice jog along the Passer. If that's not enough, you can take part in the extensive sports program at Andreus. From yoga to meditation, various fun sports such as canyoning or rafting, mountain bikes (with guided tours) there is a 300m 2 sports area spread over 3 floors that is more than happy for the fitness heart. So there are no excuses!
Golfers can either tee off at the Passeier Golf Club (directly at the partner hotel Andreus) or try their luck at the beautiful Dolomiti Golf Club Sarnonico. If you would like to seek your happiness on horseback, the Sonnenalm is the right place for you: Andreus has its own riding stable with school horses and an in-house riding school .
In 2020, a great wellness house on three floors added directly to the existing hotel. There is a beautiful relaxation area, a Finnish event sauna with daily infusions, a herbal sauna and an outdoor plunge pool. 25 meter long, heated outdoor sports pool is also new . After hard tennis training, you can also relax in the indoor pool in the Sonnenalm. In the Beauty-Wellnessalm there are various massages for young and old.
And when it comes to wellness, the same applies: if you want something even bigger, fancier and more exclusive, the wellness area of the partner hotel Andreus is open to you at any time. But the TennisTraveller actually has everything their tennis heart desires in the Sonnenalm.
You book yourself into the Hotel Sonnenalm with half board. In the morning you get off to a perfect start with a gourmet breakfast. In the evening, a 5-course menu is served in the panoramic restaurant. In the afternoon there is homemade cake.
Up the mountain - on foot, by bike or comfortably by gondola
There are countless opportunities to explore the beautiful mountain world around the Sonnenalm from spring to autumn. The hotel can give great tips here. The Passeier Valley itself is a very “narrow” valley and it really goes straight up quite jaggedly. And even for city kids and shopping queens, the route to Meran or Bozen is really just a stone's throw. You shouldn't miss great shops and a really interesting weekly market. Wine connoisseurs drive a little further towards Lake Kaltern with numerous wineries and wineries. And culturally, this corner of South Tyrol also offers a lot to see.
