What takes a long time... - turned out to be a great tennis weekend at the Tennishotel Stanglwirt . In our fantastic Advent calendar 2020, Daniela from Munich won an overnight voucher in the brilliant 5-star hotel in Going am Wilden Kaiser in Tyrol. Corona put a damper on travel planning a few times. But at the beginning of 2022, Daniela and her husband were finally able to redeem the travel voucher. We were also very happy when Daniela sent us a very honest and detailed Travel Scout report. Thank you for that! Read for yourself how Daniela experienced her stay at the Stanglwirt, the tennis training, the training conditions and everything else!
"Finally, finally we were able to redeem our prize from the 2020 Advent calendar. Of course, I would definitely like to send you a small (large) travel report and thank you again for this mega great prize. We had an overnight stay for 2 people at the Stanglwirt in Kitzbühel with a private tennis lesson We booked an extra night at our own expense.
The journey from Munich to Kitzbühel was problem-free and the welcome at the Stanglwirt was very warm. Our suitcases and welcome drink were delivered to our room. It was nice that we also got an upgrade and were able to live in a beautiful, very spacious suite with an extra living area, separate dressing room and a huge whirlpool tub. The country house style of the rooms is certainly a matter of taste, I'm not a fan of this style either, but the room was really nice, clean and almost as big as our apartment in Munich.
The first thing we did, of course, was test the tennis court. Unfortunately, as expected, the outdoor spaces were still closed. But the indoor courts are also in great condition and, at 28 euros, the price is also right.
Then we go to the wellness area. This is beautifully designed and also completely ok. However, I have to say that I have seen much nicer ones and, above all, the relaxation rooms are very cramped and rather loud. There are signs everywhere that cell phones are forbidden and that you should be quiet, but unfortunately this is rarely followed and the staff doesn't intervene either.
Approximately half of the saunas are in the family area and may only be used with swimwear. Personally, I find it rather strange to go into the sauna wearing swimwear, but of course that's a matter of taste.
We had dinner in the à la carte restaurant. The staff was super friendly, but unfortunately they were a bit overwhelmed with the amount of people and so it was a bit chaotic and hectic. However, I think that this is due to Corona and the probably many cancellations and that things are usually more orderly. The food was good, but the price was in the upper class (1 soup 8 euros, a roast pork 22 euros and an onion roast 34 euros).
The absolute highlight was the breakfast buffet the next morning. As you can probably read from my previous report, we often go to good wellness hotels, but we have never seen such a great breakfast buffet anywhere. There is simply everything and in the best quality. Our expectations were really exceeded here.
Afterwards we went to our private tennis training ( TennisTraveller : at the Peter Burwash Tennis PBI Academy). We were given a very warm welcome. The fact that my husband spontaneously wanted to take part in the training was no problem at all. The training was great. Our trainer gave us really valuable tips that I was able to put into practice. I can only recommend the training at Stanglwirt to everyone, it was a lot of fun and, I think, helped me progress.
My husband played a LK tournament the day after we left and won both matches, that says it all ;)
Then we went back to the wellness area, played tennis again and did a bit of hiking in the beautiful surroundings.
Since we were very exhausted in the evening, we canceled the a la card restaurant and had room service bring us something. I ordered a club sandwich and my husband was really hungry for pizza. It was super nice that room service made this possible, even though pizza wasn't on the menu. Unfortunately, we were a little disappointed by the quality and the high price.
After another restful night in our huge bed, we unfortunately went home again the next morning, after the excellent breakfast buffet, very refreshed and relaxed.
The Stanglwirt is an excellent hotel in a beautiful location. The staff is always courteous and very friendly. Our concerns that it would appear too stiff and "pretentious" did not come true at all.
The tennis courts and the trainers are first class. The wellness area is nice, but still has room for improvement in a few corners.
We would actually be happy to recommend the Stanglwirt without reservation, but in our opinion the very high food and drink prices are a small downside. But if you don't mind that, you can have a wonderful time here.
Best regards, Daniela
