Gugelhupf recipe from the Four Seasons Hotel Schluchsee in the Black Forest - a South German baking classic
The Gugelhupf is a real classic in southern German baking. The juicy sponge cake, baked in the classic Gugelhupf shape, is perfect as a cake with afternoon coffee. But we also enjoy eating it for breakfast. The guests of our tennis hotel Four Seasons Schluchsee regularly enjoy the “sweet sin”. So that you can treat yourself and your loved ones to the cake at home, the hotel has shared their Gugelhupf recipe with us. And now it’s time for you to bake and enjoy!
Ingredients for a Bundt cake
- 330g flour
- 30 g wheat starch
- 265g butter
- 100g powdered sugar
- 180g egg white
- 130g sugar
- 165 ml warm milk
- 10g baking powder
- 6 egg yolks
- 7g cocoa & rum
- Vanilla & Lemon
preparation
- Mix butter, powdered sugar, vanilla and lemon until fluffy, then add egg yolks
- Mix the flour, starch, baking powder and milk and mix with the above mixture
- Beat the egg whites and sugar and fold into the entire mixture
- Stir in cocoa and rum
Grease the cake tin and dust it with flour. Then pour in the mixture and bake at 180°C for about 50 minutes.
