Consistency - the training focus on day 2 in the junior tennis camp at the Alexander Waske Tennis University
A restful deep sleep, delicious breakfast at the hotel and then we headed back to the Kempinski Hotel for the first training session in the junior tennis camp at the Alexander Waske Tennis University at 9 a.m. The two tennis kids were already a bit tired in their bones, but after the 30-minute warm-up the “engine” was running smoothly again.
Consistency - the magic word with a big impact on the pitch
After the relaxed hitting, during which coach Ivana always asked to slow down and instead play with more spin and confidence, we went on to various drills on the theme of “Into the court – out of the court” with the forehand and backhand . Everything is always based on the premise of “consistency” , i.e. consistency in everything you do.
Short quick steps, stability in the body and enough spin in the shots – that was the recipe for success! The conclusion was another exercise in which what had been practiced was played against each other with target points.
Indian coaching group for training at the Tennis University
What was interesting was that the hall was suddenly populated by 10 Indian tennis coaches who were receiving training from a coaching team from the Tennis University. In total, the trainers are here for a full two months for trainer training. In the future, they will teach at the Indian “offshoot” of the Alexander Waske Tennis University near Mumbai according to the principles of the Tennis University. Exciting stuff and very funny colleagues!
Second training session with lots of tactical and game strategy tips from coach Kenter
We spent our lunch break from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the gallery assigned to us in the hotel. Well, it wasn't really comfortable here, but we already discovered yesterday that as a tennis player you should only be on "certain paths and in certain rooms".
In the afternoon we continued with tennis training with Kenta from New Zealand . The focus was once again consistency – consistency in terms of length, direction and also tempo. There were various exercises in which these factors were “tackled” in a goal-oriented manner. High intensity on the pitch A lot of tactical and game strategy explanations from Kenter during the breaks. The kids were super attentive! Unfortunately I wasn't able to do an interview with Kenta today because he had the next training session right after - but it will be rescheduled!
Also interesting: 15-year-old Paul, who has been training at the Tennis University since the beginning of the year and lives at the Offenbach base, was training again on the next court today. He also visits the Kurpfalz-Gymnasium in Mannheim once a week and focuses on tennis - a model that is currently being practiced very frequently.
The fitness session won't be until 6 p.m. this evening - so we went back to the hotel now.
Chill and relax mode is the order of the day before things get intense again this evening.
Children's mouth reveals truth...
What was great?
- "The cone challenge from a semi-open position!"
- "Kenter's tactical explanations - I'll remember some of them!"
What wasn't so great?
- "It was pretty cold in the hall this morning."
