Extreme final training session at the junior tennis camp at the Alexander Waske Tennis University - mobilizing the last reserves of strength one last time!
Unfortunately, we still had a patient today – our older player is still unwell, so I prescribed a rest day for her. Since this was already apparent yesterday, the training plan for day 4 at the Alexander Waske Tennis University was quickly changed . André Stenger, the junior head coach, rearranged the training so that our younger player had an extra-long session of 2.5 hours. Fantastic, especially since a coach at the university was also out sick! Incidentally, such long sessions are a regular occurrence here – after all, long matches can easily go that far.
A relaxed morning of chilling and working in the hotel before the start of training
Since training didn't start until 1 p.m., we enjoyed a leisurely start at the hotel. We slept in, had a leisurely breakfast, relaxed a bit more, and then checked out. Overall, our stay at the Leonardo Royal Hotel in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen excellent: a quick 10-minute walk to the tennis hall, a large and quiet triple room, a spacious parking garage, and delicious food that we ordered from room service twice in the evenings – everyone was simply too exhausted to go to a restaurant.
2.5 hours of individual training with all the trimmings - that really took its toll!
A self-guided warm-up in the very warm hall today – then André arrived and they went full throttle right away. Even though his legs were really heavy today, our little guy battled bravely through the exercises. The forehand weakness identified yesterday due to the extreme grip change was addressed with a variety of exercises and drills. Shorter backswing, slightly splayed index finger, and more spin – those were the three main points.
And of course, the other shots weren't neglected either: backhand, volley, smash, serve, and return. And to finish, a short match. First against a child practicing on the adjacent court, and then, as a grand finale, against André, the coach. Summoning his last reserves, he managed a quite respectable match!
Completely exhausted but totally satisfied – that's how our youngest left the pitch. A very intense session with all the trimmings!
The packed TennisTravellercampervan was already waiting outside the hotel, so we could head straight home. And thanks to the public holiday in Baden-Württemberg, we were home in no time. Today it's time to put our feet up and recover. And tomorrow the kids will take it easy—and leave their tennis rackets in the corner! After such an intense few days, that's just what they need!
