Playing and studying tennis at a US college is a big dream for many young tennis players. To make your big dream come true, many US universities offer tennis scholarships. With this significant financial support, many tennis players from all over the world can fulfill their dream of playing college tennis every year. But who can actually apply for a tennis scholarship at a US college ? How does it all work? And there are countless other question marks that my husband and I had on our faces at the beginning of the year when, completely unexpectedly, our daughter Mia expressed her desire to study in the USA and play college tennis.
Over the next few months we will take you on Mia's journey to US college .
So that you get an idea of everything that needs to be done, thought about and prepared. Both as a future “student-athlete” but also as a parent. In the first part of our series we will tell you how Mia's wish came about, how we took the first steps towards it and what decisions have already been made. So much in advance: it was an extremely exciting start!
The fact that gentle strengthening exercises, relaxation and meditation techniques are a perfect match for tennis is nothing new . Yoga, Pilates and meditation are omnipresent in the professional sector, but they also offer a lot of potential for every amateur player that can pay off not only on the tennis court. Many camp organizers have now recognized this and offer holistic tennis camps in which, in addition to tennis, there is also a lot of stretching, strengthening and yes, even meditation. For example, at MasterCamp by Patrik Kühnen in the Kalimera Kriti Hotel & Village Resort on Crete , which takes place in May.
We asked Patrik why a holistic camp experience with tennis, yoga, Pilates and meditation can be so valuable for every participant and how he practices yoga, Pilates and meditation in his private life.

The first stop of our themed “ Tennis & Culinary in Carinthia” is at the Hotel & Spa Sonne in St. Kanzian on the west bank of Lake Klopein. In the family-run 4-star hotel you will find the best conditions for a tennis holiday as a couple, with friends or family from April to October. The charming hotel is located directly on the lake and offers you an unforgettable lake and mountain panorama . You will certainly have fond memories of the tasty Alpine-Adriatic cuisine that the kitchen team puts on your plate every day. We asked the hotel what is special about Alpine-Adriatic cuisine and how the tennis hotel is implementing the slow food trend. Let us take you on a culinary journey of discovery. And there is also a super delicious recipe. Have fun cooking the Carinthian Lax`n on white wine risotto with porcini mushrooms and bacon chips .
Today there's something from the "In Test" section . After I was able to test the DUNLOP FX 500 last fall and basically fell in love with this racket, I was more than excited to see how the new DUNLOP FX 500 , which has been available to buy since the beginning of 2023, would play. Visually it definitely cuts a better figure, as the racket comes in a fresh and almost bright blue. This impressed me straight away when I unpacked it! But since appearances are secondary even with a racket, the match with my son got down to business. And what can I say: the new DUNLOP FX 500 has gone a step further compared to its predecessor, which was already brilliant to play. And that in terms of speed and control. But it's best to read and see for yourself!
Part three of the tennis gloss "Anders hing'looks" by Heinz Schwarz , author of the book "Are you still playing real tennis or are you already winning something?" is entitled "Coach me like Djokovic" and attempts to transfer training approaches that Heinz experienced and practiced when training the young Novak Djokovic at the Niki Pilic Academy in Munich to training approaches that can help us "normal tennis people" advance.
In order for this transfer to be successful, coaches should not try to completely change the style of play and technique of experienced tennis players and tamper with them on an epic scale. Rather, it should be the coach's job to get the best out of an experienced player's circumstances. Of course, Heinz also has helpful tips for us players. And find out why the “winner” is not always the ultimate.
As always, very entertainingly written - enjoy reading!

In the second part of the tennis gloss "Anders hing'looks" by Heinz Schwarz , author of the book "Are you still playing real tennis or are you already winning something?" it's about mistakes. Yes, we all know them more than well, right? After all, tennis is and remains a game of mistakes. But why do we waste points that we thought were safe, why do we leave a 100% chance in the net or on the fence? The explanation is quickly found to be a technical error: too little spin, not closing the racket enough, and whatever other crazy things we can think of. The fact that all the mistakes that happen to you have something to do with technology - Heinz clears that up in his gloss entitled " Not everything that goes wrong in tennis is also a technical mistake ".
Find out why errors in distance and errors in motivation are common sources of error, especially in hobbies and leisure activities, and how you can combat them. As always, very entertainingly written - enjoy reading!
